Whatever your problem...

Self Esteem

Often, many of the problems we have as adults can be as a result of the way we view ourselves and the value we place on ourselves. Babies aren’t born with low self esteem, rather it is learned, based on our life experiences and especially on information received from ‘significant others’. This information becomes internalised and thereafter colours our view of ourselves and our value as a person. This view then affects our ‘reality’.

If your experiences have been mainly negative, then your beliefs about yourself are also going to be negative; your self esteem will be low. Your view of yourself is an opinion however; not a fact and as such can be inaccurate and biased.

Low self esteem can have an impact on many, if not all areas of a person’s life. It can be noticeable in the way people speak about themselves, in their body language, emotions (guilt, shame, frustration, depression, anxiety and anger). It often limits the person’s activities because of avoidance and can affect relationships, health, work and leisure.

Low self esteem can also develop as a result of other long-standing problems such as chronic anxiety, panic attacks, chronic pain or illness and relationship problems. Often, once these difficulties have been dealt with, the person’s self esteem is restored.

Hypnotherapy is an excellent way of enhancing a person’s self esteem using positive suggestions, challenging and reframing. If you would like to contact me about hypnotherapy and self esteem then please contact me.

Weight Management

There are many people who are happy with their weight but equally there are many who are not. Often those who are overweight feel socially excluded, discriminated against and invisible because our society is geared towards the thin, ‘perfect’ figure. Yo-yo dieting doesn’t work and actually results in greater weight gain over time.

Overeating is usually more to do with emotional pain and so the solution is to focus on why you are overeating rather than what you are eating. It is important to look at what the food is doing for you and what unresolved issues it may be helping you to avoid. These unresolved issues and emotions need to be resolved so that the individual can move forward with their life.

Anxiety and Depression

This term refers to emotions and thoughts as well as physical symptoms (muscle tension, palpitations, dry mouth, sweating, shallow breathing, nausea and headaches). Stress and anxiety are normal reactions and happen to everyone when they feel threatened. The problems only arise if it happens when there is no presenting danger or continues long after the stressful event is over. In this instance the symptoms are generally also interfering with everyday life. Anxiety states also include panic attacks, social anxiety (blushing, severe shyness etc) and health anxiety (undue anxiety surrounding aspects of your health)

Depression is not a sign of weakness. Many intelligent, capable and successful people suffer depression. More than 15% of all adults will become depressed at some time in their lives. There is, however, a stigma attached to depression and not all people will understand how the person with depression feels. Negative remarks such as "it’s all in your head" or "pull your finger out and stop feeling sorry for yourself" are hurtful and only serve to increase self doubt and erode the person’s self esteem.

When I am working with people who are suffering with anxiety or depression I use a combination of techniques including hypnosis, cognitive-behavioural and EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique).

If you suffer problems not discussed here, please get in touch to discuss whether hypnotherapy can be used to help you.
